2. On page five, it states that Reynie looked for solitude and freedom from persecution. What does this mean? Use evidence from the text to support your answers. They place where all the books is the only place he would not get teased and he could be left alone because nobody went in there.
3. Why would Reynie break his pencil in half for someone that he didn't even know? Reynie did that because you could only bring one pencil and he was trying to be nice because the other people just walked by her and didnt help.

1. Why do you think that Mr. Benedict is telling the children to pay attention to what the Institute doesn't teach? He is saying that because he also wants them to use background info that they already know so they will be even better.
2. What is Morse code? Who invented this communication system and what was it used for? Morse code is a code that uses dots and dashes to talk to eachother each other. Samuel Morse invented it.
3. Mr. Benedict on page 119 states, "Whether you always agree is inconsequential,..." What does this mean? How does this fit into the definition of a team? It means that they wont always agree but they still need to work as a team.
4. When Sticky tells about his background, he says that philanthropists began sending his parents money, what are philanthropists? It also says that Sticky was astonished and mortified - about what? Sticky was astonished and mortified that his parents said they were better off without him, and they they were trying less and less to find him.
5. Constance had a breakthrough on page 124, describe this event. Constance asked about Sticky's past and after he finished she said sorry.
6. Milligan has amnesia and wears disguises - why? So people that don't like him won't find him.

1. How are you enjoying this book so far? What questions do you currently have about this book that you think will be answered as we continue with the book? I like this book alot a lot. I dont don't have any questions tho.
2. Who are the executives and what is their job? What's the difference between a messenger and an executive? An executives almost run the place and they are different from messenger because messengers have striped pants.
3. Describe Jackson and Jillson. What do you think their role is in this book? I think they will show them around and they seem kinda mysterious like like might be trouble later.
4. On page 160 it states that Kate was, "trying to prove she didn't need anyone's help and this was easiest to believe when she was doing what she was good at." What do you think this means? After Kate's dad left she didnt didn't have anybody so she was trying to prove she didnt didn't need anybody so when your doing something your really good at it shows that you can do stuff by yourself.
5. The end of the chapter ends with a cliff-hanger. What is a cliff-hanger and why it important? A cliff-hanger is when something goes on that is big and then it ends with nothing else. It is important because it makes you want to read on.

6. Why do you think there was a trap disguised with a plant on top? Do you think this will be important later in the book? What is that called when an author gives you clues as to what is going to occur further into the book? I think there was a plant trap because no one would think of that being a trap. They helpers are the people who cook and clean. They got brainswept because they can't remember anything, not even their name.
8. On page 166, the phrase "Whatever floats your boat," is an idiom. What is an idiom and what does this phrase mean? Whatever makes you happy.
9. What do you think about the Institute having no rules? How is this statement contradicted? I think there are some rules because the book said you have to turn your lights off at ten o'clock. It is contradicted because it seeems opposite, there are no rules but there are rules. You need to finish answering the questions for number 9.
10. What is a free market? Why do they have to memorize a chant about the free market? A free market is where prices and wages are determined by unrestricted competition between businesses without government regulation. I think they have to remember it because that will be the next message. Redo this answer as it is incorrect.

What does it mean in the story and what does it mean in life? I in the book S.Q said it and it means a logical conclusion and in real life it means to try hard to protect yourself from everything.
4. Why would SQ say she was "astounded or astonished" when Sticky and Reynie had received perfect scores? Why would this upset Martina? SQ would say that because she never saw that good of work and Martina would be mad because she was the best in the class and might bot be a messenger anymore if they become messengers.

3. Why were Reynie, Kate and Constance trying to climb the wall? They were trying to climb the wall because They wanted to see what was going on in the gym.

5. On page 282, the word "ominous" is used. What does this word mean and how is it used in the sentence? Ominous means portending evil or harm.
6. Describe Sticky as he came out of the Waiting Room. He was scared and was like a zombie.

2. On page 314, it states that Reynie and Sticky shook hands "resolutely," what does this mean and how does it fit into the sentence? Resolutely means firmly resolved or determined.
3. On page 315, Jackson refers to Sticky or George as "dimwitted," what does this mean and how does it fit into the sentence? Drmwitted means a stupid or slow thinking person.
4. Why couldn't the boys know the way to the Whispering Gallery? I think they couldn't because Mr. Curtain needs to keep it from harm. Someone could go into there and break it or go in there and get a extra turn.
5. Describe the Whispering Gallery. It is a large room with only a desk, two cushions and the Whisperer.
6. On page 317, it states that the Whispering Gallery is so "austere," what does this mean?
7. Again the idea of control comes up over and over, why? It comes up because that is what Mr. Curtain thinks will make all the people happy.
